Hawaii like all of the Polynesian Islands were conquered and colonized by America. There is a predominate movement within the Hawaiian faction that aspire for the Hawaiian Islands to become it’s own country which wouldn’t be such a disagreeable objective. I use the word “faction” because Native Hawaiian sums come to less than 1% of the American population actually 0.4% of the population, with dwindling populations like so it is no astonishment as to why many Native Hawaiians hold this stance. Many push to ban tourism or put a limitation on it because of the fatalistic affects it has had on the people and culture. Neighboring Guam holds a population of 168,783 as of 2020 that is a territory of America but not a state. Much like Hawaii with the decimation of land for the use of commercialization, culture, sacred sites, overcrowded tourism that too frequently hold no respect for the people nor islands, no one can be critical of it.
