“Any time somebody colored is doing something right they paint us out wrong.” The United States VS Billie Holiday

Empowering Award Winning stunning biopic about ,Billie Holiday, as played by the incomparable Andra Day. She absolutely killed that role. Such a powerful strong figure and spirit of not just the arts and music but Herstory. Her music much like her life was incredibly soulful, raw, and honest. So far ahead of her time. It is a shame she passed on far too soon. By 44 Holiday was a legend and always will be. Such an inspiration and survivor. Like so many Girls and Women in the arts realm she was preyed upon by unscrupulous males who mistreated, exploited, and used her. She came from a childhood of maltreatment. Her music certainly reflected the arduousness of her life and the lives of many people — Women especially of color that still continues to this day. Law also harassed her based on her stance on Human Rights which is also conveyed in the movie. Placing that aside dealers and the like also harassed her but she kept it moving in her career.

“It’s (Strange Fruit) about human rights. The government forgets that sometimes.”

“They don’t want her singing that song but if she don’t do it, who will? She’s singing it for all of us. That young lady is a hero.”

Always respects to the Queen of Blues, Soul, and an originator of Rights for People of Color Black and Brown.
