The issue with these “theories” is this not only feeds the old stereotypes of mountain people (such as the Melungeons, various Indigenous peoples, other mixed race groups, or just low income peoples, etc) they’re based on ignorance and racist ideologies. The truth is our peoples are actually very resourceful and like most isolated peoples don’t wish to be harassed, lied about or bothered. As spoken of I come from mountain and Indigenous peoples we do not appreciate our lore and traditional beliefs spoken of nor used for entertainment let alone some boogie man explanation when some white individual goes missing or I hate to say died because they were dumb enough to wander off from National Park paths not to mention didn’t Follow common knowledge when hiking and such. It’s called ,Natural Selection, in many cases as to why not to be an idiot. If you do something stupid while in our regions it’s called cause and effect. These colonistic mindsets rehash aged stereotypes that we “The boogie people are out to get non Mountain and or Indigenous peoples” when honestly we just want to live in peace. I think we’ve had enough demonization throughout our lives without some 2020 internet dwellers adding to the problem. Needless to say this same mentality is why a white Girl or Woman goes missing it is splattered all over the news HOWEVER what of the thousands of Missing Murdered Indigenous Girls, Women, and or Youths and yet not a peep is made out of the media? That is exactly one of the reasons the spotlight isn’t placed on us more despite the fact there isn’t enough of us left hardly to afford such disregard because of that privileged mindset feeding the cycle of ignorance, racism, bigotry, and colonialism.
