Cultural Tattoos

As presented by VICELAND

The tattoos for the face same with several other Indigenous, Polynesian, Micronesian, Melanesian etc cultures who practice the same rituals more or less- I like probably most if not all of those from the peoples believe that should be reserved for us only if we choose to do so not for outsiders to have it chiseled onto their faces because they think it looks nice. It is a very sacred act and belongs to us, the designs have cultural not to mention personal meanings. There is a wonderful thing of appreciating a culture but to extract and exploit that culture is another subject entirely. There’s a barrier of staying out of the space and cultures when applicable. IE Getting a chiseled tattoo traditionally reserved for tribal members along with special meanings such as Chief’s, leaders, etc only that’s meant for us. Besides as one young lady as far as I could tell is Caucasian spoke on a viral TicToc recently pertaining to the appropriation of Black hairstyles — after going through the history as to the discrimination of Black Americans “I think they’ve earned their right to a hairstyle.” That goes for any culture and frankly culture is not another’s fashion statement. There are people and sacred aspects to leave alone.

As the young aka E na keiki say..
