Dark Tourist

How intellectuals spend their weekend evenings

You’re welcome 🤷🏽‍♀️ 😄

All humor aside when it comes to the episode featuring parts of Africa the episode really highlights the poverty in one portion of the country known as Alexandra. Despite the poverty as noted by the journalist it is a vibrant community because they have one another. In so called “impoverished” areas those communities which have more “privilege” do not, human spirit, dignity to the best that is capable in some cases, and a sense of community. They can’t survive without the lifeline of it. With that said absolutely no it’s not safe to walk around alone as a tourist or anyone at night in general but as akin like most areas in the world there’s the sweet and the salty. Fascinating and profound episode. Furthermore the phenomenon of spinning, you don’t want to do that with an inexperienced driver just FYI. I will have to add the most irking part especially in this era of Black Lives Matter and Brown Lives Matter is the region of Oriana in South Africa aka the leftover Apartheid supporters who want to “preserve their culture” who live apart from Black South Africans by choice. Essentially White Afrikaana extremists that honestly need to get over the fact the country It ISN’T THEIR HOME, if they want to reside apart from Black South Africans and think they’re better than the people of color in South Africa then they need to go back to Europe. The place of their ancestors who have done nothing but take rom Africa, exploit it, destroy it, oppress it, and motivate genocide by their Eurocentric ideologies. It is not their land period, no sugar coating about it. They’re colonizers who invaded and oppressed the peoples in the country causing much racial divide and tension. They need to learn to acknowledge and respect that fact instead of being paranoid of “Losing their culture” and some Black African “Dooms Day” Apocalypse, then go to your real home if you don’t like it. That’s being entirely forthright. They’re basically the KKK of South Africa to be blunt.
