While conditioning and breaking in pointe shoes I watched the ,Northern Ballet, rendition of Dracula. Absolutely stunning and increvil. The part when Dracula shows a moment of humanity, even benevolence, and warmth towards Mina it really is personified well only to plunge into the perverse Prince of darkness his character is. That isn’t a effortless thing to do, to act without saying a word. To get the message across to the audience without the use of words is not undemanding, the company did a great job with it. The whole thing with Dracula’s character is he corrupts. They really conveyed on what a blood sucker his character is but what a damned being he is. Everyone he lays eyes on he wishes to corrupt. There’s Lucy character who okay is a little rambunctious but he takes that and totally twists it until she becomes an undead, same with Mina. There are dark beings that have that character trait in real life, we don’t need fantasy based vampires they exist in real life. I was saying those kind even their eyes look like the portrayal of Dracula. Sometimes they have a mental illness or they’ve resided in such dark depravity they’ve become that and abhor genuine goodness because they’re so depraved. It’s like an old friend of mine used to say there are people they see a lovely flower healthy good people admire the flower sniff the flower but a dark being wants to drag the flower through crap and stomp on it. It was a poignant metaphor. They don’t appreciate anything good, holy, or pure. What is good is evil and what is evil is good in their eyes. It’s like I said many years ago I don’t play with dead things because it brings nothing but destruction. Philosophy aside I fully suggest as shown on BBC Northern Ballet’s Dracula to watch. It was great to see because not many companies perform it anymore, it seemed like it used to be a mainstay in Ballet but as time has gone on less and less companies perform it let alone cast for it therefore it was terrific to watch.
