Eyebrow Raising Money
Upon being contacted for a promotional spot I showed interest for months ago I would say probably before January this year, no word no nothing matter of fact I’ve nearly forgotten about it then all of a sudden I received a text and a fairly decent check mailed to me that I had to acknowledge “immediately.” Initial probable red flag. The name of the person claiming to be a promotional manager of this company has no listing of being involved with the company at least not in open Google search even though they have a corp email address nor the phone number given, and the address the check was sent from was definitely not from the headquarters of the corporation. If you were part of legitimate promotional work for a legitimate corp the check would likely come from that corp and signed by the President of that corp. In fact the address/name on the actual check and the other address on the envelope are two totally different addresses not to mention the company that sent it has a hand in oil/gas not anything related to the corporation I applied for. This is what those who do influence work have to watch out for scams offering fake or maybe even dirty money. The actual company was notified and needless to say I will likely be having law investigate this probable fraudulent check. These young Influencers out here have to be very aware and careful because there are a great deal of unscrupulous out there. I think one of the most detrimental jobs to have is influencing because you either can draw a psycho element to you OR you have a great deal of scam artists come at you. It’s not so unlike grappling with the entertainment or arts world to some capacity. This is why many have mangers and agencies to filter that stuff. Doing freelance work can have it’s pitfalls for certain.
