One time I believe it was in his final interview Frank Zappa was asked of his opinion of drugs and alcohol, his response? “The license to be an a$$hole.” Throughout his career he was very much against drug use and any addiction really.

It was known he would fire people on the spot for using drugs while working for him on the road or misusing alcohol especially on the job. This is very true, frequently if users are a$$holes before drugs and alcohol those substances magnify these already pre-existing problems invoking them to be even more of an ahole. In the dance and modeling realm for the most part that has shifted drastically especially the past 5 years. Under a lot of contracts if a person is using an agency or company generally initially attempt to get the user professional counseling however if they continue to use they usually have a 3 strike rule. You can’t perform well or do well if as one Gentleman of Kiss said you are like Gumby. You can’t abuse your body or brain like that and not expect ramifications from it. I’ve seen performers coked out of their back-end and or drunk off their a$$ attempt to perform in clips… it’s not a fine picture it’s pitiful. People always wanted to point out artists like Amy Winehouse but by far she wasn’t the only one. What was shunned then is the norm these days except she had talent to begin with. In any walk of life narcotic and alcohol abusers are ahole’s generally. There was a meme I saw going around awhile ago that read something like “Drunk people are so busy having fun they don’t notice they’re pissing everyone else off.” Or something along those lines. That is true addicts of either or live in their own world and their ahole-ism is never more present than when they’re under the influence.
