Romani Rule: Look But Don’t Touch

At best. In honor of forthcoming International Day of the Roma. That’s a pretty universal law when it comes to anyone of Gypsy descent to any capacity of any tribe or tribes.

A chaperone for certain, that goes for any Girl or Woman regardless of age. My chaperone even as a grown millennial is typically a Man family member rarely a male friend, cousin, aunts, or good friends that know my background. For me personally it’s also in conjunction due to the decade long serial stalker I’ve spoken of. The other reason would be any way because of cultural ties even though not growing up in the Gypsy community per say besides people like me historically speaking may not be accepted anyway because of our mixed ethnic background. Like most cultures that are rooted in the Middle East there’s a great deal of tribalism. Roma often times don’t even get along with or communicate with other Gypsy tribes so you can image someone of multiple ethnicities and another tribe or 2 thrown in (including Lom) wouldn’t be accepted into many communities not totally anyway. Plus being a bit more “liberal” but not core wise. I just sum it up to Sinti because it’s easier than listing everything I am mostly due to having a Melungeon Grandparent which was pretty much mixed with everything under the sun. 😄

Accepted in the community or not it’s extremely rare to see one of us walking around alone, that’s for our protection mainly being there’s a lot of predators out there that for 1. Don’t like Gypsy people or our way of life to any extent and for 2. Would want to harm a Girl or Woman that by non gypsy (gorger) standards are “sheltered.” Abuse and persecution upon us has been common therefore this is why we keep to ourselves. The more marginalized the background the more those of us that are have to be aware of sick individuals out there that prey on marginalization. Cher’s 1970’s song “Gypsy’s Tramps and Thieves” wasn’t far off about the outside perception of Roma VS what actually is.

And this is one of the more controversial aspects of not just Roma culture but many nomadic cultures have similar practices.

“Grabbing” is also another one
