The Art Of Recovery

“I felt completely defeated. My life was threatened. My work was threatened. My career was… jeopardized completely. I’ve pretty much been on a journey for 20 years of not doing my art, of not painting and I was just trying to survive. And then I began again painting because I was tired of being afraid. I felt like I wanted to expose the monsters, and I needed to get that out.” Artist Maria Farmer, a survivor of Epstein.

As quoted from episode 4 of the docuseries Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich

“I’ll never get to see Jeffrey again, and I wanted him to see the Woman I’ve become and that he didn’t break me. And I will fight till my last breath on Earth. I’m here today to tell you that it stops here, and it stops now, I am here. My fight for the rest of my life will be to make sure that no woman will ever feel ashamed to come forward.” Sarah Ransome Epstein survivor

“Epstein did not act alone so my next step is holding other people accountable. The people that were involved, the people that actually participated, there are so many of them out there. None of them have been held accountable. We were kids being trafficked under their eyes, under their nose they knew exactly what was going on and they didn’t say anything about it. So stop worrying about saving your own hide and help us. That’s all we are asking for. The monsters are still out there and they’re still abusing other people. Why they have not been named and shamed yet… is beyond me.” Virginia Roberts, Epstein survivor

Sharply put by fellow sexual violence and trafficking survivors in their cases their perpetrator was Epstein and his girlfriend who as of today was finally apprehended by the FBI. Anytime there is an injustice of that magnitude no questions about the abuser and those who covered for the exploiter, facilitated or participated in the abuse should be held accountable. The world has witnessed at last if former heavyweights such as Weinstein, Epstein, and R Kelly were taken down nothing and no one can stop any similarly guilty party from being brought down either. The art of recovery is justice, if there is not justice as the Black Lives chant goes then there will be no peace because you can’t have true peace without justice in some form. That’s passivity and complacency coined as peace it’s saccharine, it has no substance nor remorse. There are things that need to be held accountable for especially when it’s entailed systematic abuse. That should never be left to take place upon anyone else again. When it comes to repetitive offenses that violates the very human rights of others the Malcom X model encompasses the manner in which that abuser should be dealt with. Like garden variety bigots as a whole are cowards the metaphorical sheet needs to be ripped off and held personally responsible for their actions.
