It goes over how essentially social media makes money off of users, how it has the capacity to addict users, ruin lives, contributes to snap chat body dysmorphia syndrome based on what is perceived by others as reality via photo filters, the skyrocketing of mental health issues social media contributes to, algorithms, lack of self worth based on what is viewed on the screen, Conspiracy Theories, Human Rights abuses IE myramar among many others, the Alt Right, falsified news — how social media is not really connection at all it’s deceit and sneakiness of manipulation by marketing tactics — as a founding father of technology featured in the documentary put it so eloquently. Essentially it’s all an illusion it’s not reality, it’s not real life. It has little to do with reality. The documentary gains the insight from the most senior levels of social media and technological platforms as to how social media operates. Essentially social media platforms are like a narcotics dealer. The whole basis and goal is to get people hooked on their services therefore they will continue to keep coming back placing money into the pockets of the platform. It’s based on dopamine in the brain users can gain from making use of it. It’s a total psychological manipulation, seduction, and addiction tool. As Stanford University Medical Director of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Anna Lembke, put it “Social media is a drug.”

Really fascinating eye opening documentary. Makes sense why users become so addicted to it. Always be aware it’s a tool nothing more. If you find yourself not being able to give up something for a day, week, or more you’re addicted to it and quintessentially giving money to social media as you lose out in life.. authentic real life.
