Virginity Weigh In
I came across a casting today for a reality show that is for young adults aged roughly 25 to 35 that are virgins. The whole premise is essentially attempting to hook up the virgins for “An experience of a lifetime.”…. There are too many things wrong with that in my opinion. I’m sure the producers want it to be “groundbreaking” however in our world it’s not going to be perceived that way. For one it has fetishization and exploitation of vulnerability all over it. I say vulnerability because of course due to the monetary offering of the show. Most wouldn’t place themselves out there like so if they didn’t need the money and not to even broach that there maybe varying reasons why some may have chosen to remain virgins by own accord. IE Many sexual violence survivors for example choose that route post violation because obviously the trauma was imprinted upon the psyche to the extent that there just isn’t a pull to encounter any type experience of that type OR it could be a faith based reason.
I will speak from my own experience putting something like that out there for the public in any form can draw the perverts, predators, and an element that basically to be entirely blunt want to pop a cherry of someone for obviously all of the unscrupulous reasons. It’s the conquest of it. The subject of virginity especially involving Girls and typically young Women has been the epicenter of a variety of gender-based violations as well as violence that is an entire post in and of itself. Placing that kind of interpersonal information for public knowledge can draw a foul element that seek to be conqueror of someone in that manner and thus a notch on the belt for the conquest seeker. It brings about too many issues and quandaries.
That has culturally been one reason as I’ve written of before in respective cultures where chastity is highly valued especially among Girls and Women we are protected/kept an eye on by our communities, trusted family members, etc because they are well aware there are predators who will prey upon our cultural practices and belief systems. Roma as I’ve spoke of before are a prime example those who are generally full blood that especially grew up solely in the community don’t linger about anywhere in public alone for a reason. Same with even mixed bloods. Southeast Asian overall it depends, Asian it’s prevalent, Middle Eastern it is certainly present Muslim religion especially, Jewish fairly the same, Nomadic cultures, etc. The more Orthodox the more protected. Oceanic and Indigenous generally to some degree traditionally especially if we stem from Chief’s lineage we were and in many cases still are watched in the protective sense by our people than non because our people are well aware there are a great deal of predators out there who prey on minority non eurocentric communities especially due to the fact it’s perceived as the forbidden fruit thus not the status quo. It is the novelty of it that can draw the unscrupulous if not nefarious. In fact in pre colonization Polynesian intercourse was believed as having to do with a person’s Mana (spirit.) Therefore giving it away to everyone and anyone it was kept in mind your spirit was being transferred and would leave the body essentially thus promiscuity was made wary of as essentially it was believed those that did were giving away their mana — which isn’t too far off. It is a soul tie. To be forthright for a minute think of how rugged people appear after sex, how much physical, and emotional energy it takes. It was designed that way.
That is why it is typically heart wrenching when there has been a sexual exchange between people for those ties to be cut seamlessly. That aspect is tied into and etched into a persons soul, mind, and heart whether they want to admit it or not. That’s why there is jealousy when a former or present sexual partner has someone else- upon being replaced or they fear being replaced because they knit their soul to that person. That is why promiscuous people reach a point they become cold, jaded, hardened in their mindset after awhile because they have given themselves up, their mana to every fair weather person looking for a short term joyride. Sex and the spiritual self are very closely linked that is how God designed it and why he designed it for marriage/love according to at least 3 faiths not to mention a slew of cultures.
In brief I can’t fathom the depiction as a positive outlook or representation because of the method in which reality shows tend to exploit people anyhow. They are not reality they are scripted and highly edited for pay begin with.
