Yucatec

A loved one introduced me to the work of this young Man that learns languages across the globe including the least spoken. In this episode he learns Yucatec (Mayan) that essentially is outlawed throughout Mexico as Spanish is the official language. It is due to colonization of course and the levels of that systematic caste system.

There’s also another video that he speaks Punjabi and a Yoruba video is also available.

Another covers Wolof. As one Nigerian gentleman said “Very few look in some places and there’s treasure there” more than the so called educational mainstays in academic languages. I was recently posting on my social media when we come from Indigenous backgrounds or Melungeon for example (being aware of it) and such we often grow up having at least some operational knowledge of the various languages we come from. Same with Latin, Polynesian, etc etc which people of my backgrounds also am. Even if we’re not affluent we’re aware of phrases, words, etc that are passed down or we learned on our own initiative. Excellent work and effort by this young Man. Respect for him doing so and realizing there’s so many minorities out there who have been affected by the oppression of colonization, tyranny, imperialism, Eurocentrism, etc. Great work on his part. So important during this era of COVID19 ignorance, Black Lives Mattering, Brown Lives Mattering. It’s really deeper than just learning languages it’s about respecting culture and acknowledging the original peoples existence pre-colonialism and post colonialism.
